Whirow: IMO, playing against people, getting experience, finding solutions to problems, understanding movelists, creating set ups, finding flow of less played characters should be done in casuals.
Tournies are like 'tests' that are platforms for players to apply all the experience aquired in casuals in a precise manner. Which means that in tournies it is time to use the most of the anti-character strategy, set-ups, solutions, tactics that were formulated in casuals and making sure that players don't screw up on the execution. So there is more thinking/consolidation involved and less experimentation in it.. because the goal is to win
to sum up my points: In casuals, anti-character, strategy, tactics, setups, characters, the way people think are learnt.
In Tournies, where there is the intent to win, using created strategies that are coherent and effective, and following through them without any screw up are the emphasis.
There must is a clear distinction between both IMO.
both are very important as they allow for self-improvement. Which is why I'm going to vote for single elim so that there is a better balance of casuals, due to the lesser time it takes.
I will still be willing for a rotation of the formats Never know which is best till we try it all out
I play...
Main: Xianghua and Hilde
Seconds: Raphael, Maxi, Amy, Algol, Talim, Zasalamel
TaXI :O Lizard :O I hate lizards!

Is there a right way?

Lol that is not CH! that is a DOS/breakable stun.
It is broken by rolling the stick. Mashing buttons will not help Only in VF.
CH is counter hit. Its a type of hit that occurs after a move lands on an opponent, when he is in the middle of an attack. It can be identified by a red spark

TRAAIIITTTOOOOOOOORRRRR!
Edit:
I just want to voice my concern once again for the general consesus of going with double elim/best of 3. We're planning on doing this at a 4 hour event. ie. Unless we have enough consoles/tvs, chances are, we have no time for casuals, we'll be rushing to finish the tournament, and I believe everyone is going to be stressed out. I don't want that to happen for our first try at doing something like this. Which is why I suggested the formats I did. As those should be able to be completed in a reasonable time period.
If that works out, then we can try a longer format for our next event.

farp: but lizzy is like a male, lizard-like cass! or soph.
on another note, the concerns you've raised are valid concerns, but actually if we're going to have the event in public, then we'll have possibly up to 4 setups available, so no worries there.

Seriously, let's take this topic offline.
This is extremely inefficient.. we're going to go back and forth endlessly if this carries on.

rein: if we're going to be doing the tourney in the public space (duration being 4 hours), then we'd be able to utilise projectors, which we can get about 4 of, the last i checked. this would mean about 4 setups as long as we can get contributions for consoles and sticks.
if we're doing the tourney at someone's place, then we might probably have only 2 setups at most, but then time wouldn't be an issue.
aheda: the vote will determine the format only for the upcoming tourney, so let's just stick to it and rotate the format for future tourneys.

hi all!
it's the beginning of another month, so we'll be holding another console session at batou's place! more info at soulsg.wordpress.com. i hope everyone'll attend next week's session, because it'll be a good opportunity for us to further discuss details for the tourney.
oh and it'd be good if everyone replied via the wordpress post rather than here. thank you!

Good day everyone.
For those who still remember me, I'm the tall guy in glasses playing Killik back in SC2. Anyway I finally found this forum as the web address had changed. Using this avatar now as my old avatar didn't work.
Got SC4 later than most of you guys due to waiting for second hand price.. so I'm pretty greenhorn for SC4.
Playing Killik, Yoshimitsu and Darth Vader now and trying to get a hang of it.
Anyone interested to play online casually can drop me a PM or mail me in PS3. My PS ID is the same as my avatar. I uses 100mbps broadband plan so I should be able to host.
Very glad that I found this forum again after it MIA since Namco took over the address.
